A Journey of Traute and I

erick's picture

As I out from a sport shop at Kelapa Gading Mall, Traute, a German lady greeted me, and I was so surprised she was there. Traute then invited me to see a slump area at Kelapa Gading.

Our first trip was visiting a school. It’s a Sekolah Dasar Jembatan Baru, located near Kompleks angkatan laut Kelapa Gading. Its building seems like a new one, helas, flood on last February took away the entire fresh look. The school has 6 classes and 1 big teacher’s room. In one class of 4X5 Meters, I saw there are about 16 tables. 1 class has 28 to 30 pupils. But not every day the attendance reaches 28.

Ibu Niar, a teacher, told me about the situation of her pupils. They are come from poor family. The children do ngamen before or after school. And it is happen when their parents prefer their children to Cari Uang first compare to send them to school. Well, this is a reality.

Too bad, I came on Saturday no schooling and no activities there. I probably will visit the school again in this week to see the feasibility of our program will fit to their situation.

We went also to perkampungan. One young man saluted Traute as we walked down the street, and guided us to his house (it’s hard to call it a house; it’s truly uncivilized one to live in.) We met his mom, and she told us about her stories. She ever joint lot of event kind like penyembuhan, KKR, or Urapan hopping that her sicknesses would be healed, but it didn't change any colors. In the end of her story, she admitted that she is still a moslem. Now, she has bad mark of all those kind of event. (My heart was slices when I heard it).

Health over belief, these two words keep troubling my mind. Anyway…, I know that I have medical program, hope she will recuperate soon.

After magrib time, Traute lead me to other “Patient”. A young good looking man became crazy because a girl that he loves jilt him. Well, another reality. I was speechless. Love can drive everybody crazy. That’s true! He lost totally his mind. He doesn’t know who he is, not knowing his need, cannot even speak a complete sentence. Oh my God,

One thing I learn from the situation, we cannot command someone to love. Man and woman have free wills, which mean they are free to either receive or reject the power of love.

What a journey we have been

Free Will

Quoted from Erick:
"One thing I learn from the situation, we cannot command someone to love. Man and woman have free wills, which mean they are free to either receive or reject the power of love"

Thanks for sharing this story. It is a fact that we have to remember as follower of Christ, anywhere in the world, that we're doing the Lord's work. We only can be humbled and faithful in doing His ministry through His Word. It is their heart that needs to be healed, much more important than anything else.

A story from the corner of my class..

Just wanna share a bit on an almost similar experience. I have a special student in my class. He is cute, and nice. But he would not do whatever you tell him to do. So, here we are a bunch of desperate elementary school teachers trying to cope with a little unique blessing. But, who can stand this blessing???? Anyway, when we had had enough with him, out of the blue he became the nicest student in my class. How come? We don't know for sure. Yet, I believe one thing for sure. THAT GOD HAS CHANGED HIM TO BE A BETTER MAN. and HE can change us too. GBU
